Who better to give insite on problems associated with addiction than one who has been through the fire. You should show as much sensitivity towards those with addictions as you do towards gay rights.

the people he chooses to be the 'sober coach's' are all people who say they've been clean for a while but they all turn out to be messes. maybe it's just part of the plan to get them into rehab and trying to get them sober for realz
