I've never been a Star Jones fan, but I saw her on Oprah today and was surprised at how real, honest and likable she was. Too bad this is what it took, but if had spoken in the past as she did today, I think she would have a lot more fans. I hope it wasn't ingenuous, but I was truly impressed. I don't see how anyone with an ounce of compassion wouldn't have felt the same.

Health crises can really mess with your life in ways that you can't foresee.
She became a lawyer anyway, and nabbed a hosting spot on mainstream T.V. plus other good things. I'd say she's overcome, and then some. It's never the easy stuff that builds character. Star's working it o-u-t, as Randy Jackson would say. I like her persona, overall.

What a crock of shit. Did she have a physician or a psychic? There's no one on this green earth who can tell a person how long they have to live without even removing or staging cancer, and even then it's a guessing game unless it's down to days. I'm betting the "scare" was one of her implants migrated to the center of her chest.

I saw her interview on Oprah (and believe me I am no Star Jones fan) and she seemed really humble. She did not even mention the thyroid issue and said that she was addicted to food and it was all her fault. She also did not diss the View (at least that I saw) and said she was sorry she put her co-workers in the position of lying. She really appeared different than when she was at her most obnoxious on The View

Yeah, she just happened to have a tumor removed and that was responsible for her being fat all these years. What a liar.

Having an underactive thyroid isn't an excuse, it is a real medical issue. It would be nice if people who didn't have to deal with thyroid problems would take the time to understand it's not something that can be easily fixed, or that you can lose the weight if you just try hard enough. Trust me, that isn't the case. If your thyroid doesn't work, the weight will not come off, no matter how many hours a day you spend on the treadmill. It's an enormously frustrating condition to live with, aside from the weight gain there are all sorts of other symptoms and side effects including infertility, and people who just write it off as a fat person's excuse to eat too much make it all that much harder to live with.
