Rufus strikes me as a guy who glorifies and romanticizes the past, pre-Stonewall "eccentricity" of Oscar Wilde, Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, Quentin Crisp… all great old queens… but without giving due respect to modern history, the tremendous struggle and the huge sacrifice made by so many who fought (and are fighting) so hard to change our society, not only for acceptance and equality now, but so that gender and sexuality are NOT such rigid concepts for future generations, and that we WILL be treated "just like everyone else."

It's all well and good for Rufus to fancy himself a foppish dandy from a bygone era, but there comes a time when you have to wake the fuck up and realize what is at stake RIGHT NOW. I have a feeling that his so-called libertarian views aren't so intelligent and well thought out, and that in fact, a lot of this is based on cynicism and sentimentality.
