eff that. i totally agree with her. i studied irish history in college and i ended up coming down on the ira side. the al qaeda comparison does not fit. and i'm sorry but there were/are victims on both sides.

[re=2866983]Re: grace-e[/re]
first of all luckily this is a site run by americans and we have the freedom of speech so we can and will comment.
so dont say certain people shouldnt comment.
because im an american and ive read up on the troubles and everything so i know what im talking about. just because i dont have a brother joined the ira and killed my protestant cousin who was in the uvf doesnt mean im clueless.
just because people werent there when something happened doesnt mean they shouldnt speak up.
what your saying is like saying someone who lives in california shouldnt comment on 9/11 because they werent in the twin towers when it happene. or that someone in the future whos great great great grandfather shouldnt comment on 9/11 because they werent alive and there even though their ancestor had something to do with it all.
by trying to exclude people your continuing what started the problem

[re=2865533]Re: o0oIrelandActresso0o[/re]
i am so glad you brought up "the wind that shakes the barley"
i had to stop watching it at times.
when they took the man into the house to beat and kill him at the beginning i cried so hard and it was so hard to watch because before they even took him into the house i knew exactly what was going to happen.
i totally agree with everything your saying.
i hate going to church but id go because whenever i didnt want to go my dad would tell me "your ancestors in ireland were killed for being catholics" and i would go because i didnt want to disrespect my ancestors deaths.
what your saying about identity is very true.

[re=2865971]Re: englishgirl[/re]
i can say i agree because i have the right to agree.
im sorry your grandmother had to go through that but plenty of irish catholics went through that too because of the english.
as i said its a two sided street.
im not reading an i love the ira website and i never have. i've read books on the subject. ive educated myself on the troubles and on many parts of irish history where the english came in starting troubles.
throughout history the english have looked down on the irish and thought of them as scum and went in and started violence and oppression.
i can say i agree with what rose said because i know that even though there have been IRA members who have commited extreme acts, there are an equal number of english who have done the same to innocent people just because they were irish catholics.
but you may think im stupid for sympathizing with the IRA.
but i do because i know throughout history my ancestors had been oppressed horribly because of the english. the english took away their freedom, their land, and their ability to practice their religion. and if they did practice their religion they were murdered.
so honestly. if people are angry with the IRA then i dont feel sorry. the english started it hundreds of years ago. its called karma. what goes around comes around.
you have your views because of what your side went through and i have my views because of what my side went through.

OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH GGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDD

I don't understand how you people can look over EVERYTHING the UVF and RUC did to the catholics! What about the Shankill Butchers? What about the prison guards at LongKesh (the maze)? What about Bloody Sunday? Ever seen In the Name of the Father? Irish were wrongfully accused as well! The IRA (IRISH REPUBLICAN ARMY) are called that for a reason, they are an army for a REASON!!!! They had to stand up, they were tired of all the shit from the British and the protestants. If you want to do some research watch Wind that Shakes the Barley and READ Rebel Hearts (journey into the IRA) It's amazing and TRUE STORIES.

[re=2865981]Re: englishgirl[/re] Good Lord, learn some facts. I happen to be German-Jewish on my mother's side, from WWII, so obviously the Taoiseach did let Jews in. And how petty and childish do you have to be to suggest that we "stole" parts of Welsh to make up Gaelige? If you payed the slightest bit of attention in English, you'd realise that every language is like that, English is borrowed from Latin, French, Ancient Greek, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm about as unpatriotic as any other person and I'll be getting out of this dump as soon as I can, but please, don't try to lecture when you're so obviously mis-informed.
