McCain is using tar baby to describe a dilemma that is almost impossible to get out of or a sticky situation aggrivated by contact where the only solution is seperation.. not as a racial slur (although, it sometimes is used as one.. but not in this case).

It comes from a story about a doll made of tar and turpentine which was used to entrap the Br'er Rabbit character. The more that Br'er Rabbit fought it, the more entangled he became.

McCain is not the only politician to have used it either.

I still think he should use his free time to learn how to use the computer and get on "the google". I would hope that whomever is president of the united states would have the fundemental skills of turning on a computer and receiving an email. You know, that pretty much requires turning ON a computer.

Doesn't it seem like the "how perfect that your nomination came on this day" comment was like a backhanded compliment. McCain's voice tone was seriously sarcastic while saying that.
