The original french and spanish who founded and built New Orleans 300 years ago left that land alone. It was marsh that regularly flooded.
Of course the poor, with short memories, are going to settle on land that nobody else wants. Consequences un-considered.
Now they expect the US gov't to build and give them free houses. (Which the US is not in the business of doing.)

Franklin Delano Roosevelt didn't know the misery he was getting the rest of us into, when he came up with "Welfare"—what he considered at the time to be a temporary solution. It has unfortunately become a welfare culture/lifestyle for some.

Too bad this shameful example of a President can't be bothered to attend the funerals of our dead soldiers. He seems to have forgotten all the wars he's gotten them into, much less when their bodies are shipped home.

More soldiers died in Afghanistan last month than died in Iraq. Did anybody notice?

The troubles of the world will not go away because people feel that they need to appropriately send condolences in the face of the death of a decent person like Mr. Russert.
