It's funny (well, I guess "funny" isn't really the right word for it) how Hollywood history repeats itself with these tragically addicted funnymen and their best friends -

the 80s - BFFs Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi (RIP John)
the 90s - BFFs David Spade and Chris Farley (RIP Chris)
the 00s - BFFs Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson (praying for a better outcome)

The point is, NO-ONE is going to save Owen Wilson if he doesn't step up and try to save himself. All the good intentions and good friendships in the world don't mean shit if the person HIMSELF won't admit that they are powerless over drugs/alcohol and isn't willing to take the real, difficult and necessary steps to change his life.

Owen should read Eric Clapton's autobiography. E.C. overcame heroin and alcohol addiction, as well as many romantic disappointments, and he's a stronger person than ever (with a loving wife and beautiful children.)

An addict CAN'T just rely on their famliy and friends. They can help - sure, but the person HIMSELF needs to work the steps.

I hope Woody has his BFF Owen for a long, long time to come. But that's not really up to Woody, or the Wilson family, or any of Owen's other friends and well-wishers. When it comes right down to it, it's up to Owen himself.
