As much as I can't stand the bizarre phenomena that is "Britney", I do respect her right to what little privacy she is entitled to. I'm glad all those dumb ass jerks lost their jobs. I wish the vermin paparazzi were next.

I work directly with medical records. Just to get it straight, it's HIPAA, not HIPPA...but I know what you all are talking about. I work at a large medical center. we have a number of "known people" who are treated there. If there is any case that comes in if we have to access that record, either with the patient's real name or their alias we must inform our supervisor AND the department director of the date, the time, and the reason we accessed it. Otherwise we're out on our asses. AS IT SHOULD BE. This is privileged information. ALL OF THEIR ASSES SHOULD BE CANNED. PRONTO.

[re=1745462]Re: Aurora[/re] As others have said, you deserve to be sacked along with the rest of them if you behave in an unprofessional manner. It is the law which protects a person's privacy re their medical records and for good reason. If you take it upon yourself to look at stuff which doesn't concern you (legally or professionally) just to have a nose, then you are a disgrace to the whole nursing profession. People need to have confidence when admitted to hospital or in contact with any health provider that their information will be protected and treated with the strictest confidentiality. I don't care if the person is well known like Britney Spears, or Joe Bloggs down the street. Obviously Ms Spears is a target because money can be made by supplying information to gossip rags, etc. But the law is the law and these so-called professional broke it. They got what they deserve.

[re=1747780]Re: HIPPA[/re] Actually, it's spelled HIPAA, and it's not 10 years in prison, but five. Thanks for doing your fact-checking!

...that would suck for anyone ... I have a feeling that this happens to a lot of people and is just the tip of a larger underlying problem of confidentiality and policy in a hospital setting... it's likely more people were paying attention to the behaviour around her particular records and monitoring the handling as well as the obvious profits $$ in sharing the information unlike the typical hospital visitor...

[re=1745462]Re: Aurora[/re] You are absolute SLIME! Not only should you loose your license to be a nurse, you should be admitted to a mental health faciltiy. Perhaps they can fix what is so wrong with you. You don't deserve to call yourself a professional. I hope and pray someday you are busted for your lack of morals and loose your license.

What ever you feel about Britney, she deserves her privacy. The fact that a medical professional snooped in her file is reprehensible. If I were her I would sue the hell out of that hospital and all the staff who viloated that trust. It's just inforgivable what they did.

To hospital employees out there who have access to patient records, here's a warning for you. A RED FLAG goes up right next to your name in IT (information technology) departments. All hospitals do this, in fact, you're not even permitted to look up your own med. info unless you have signed a release form. They can do more than just fire, they fine you 100,000 bucks, 10 years in jail or both.
