Rufus gave perhaps the worst live performance I have ever seen, and that's not only my opinion, but shared by others at the Bowl last night. His thin, off-key and nasal voice was no match (in any sense) for Judy's powerhouse arrangements and romantic ballads. He forgot the words, cracked notes, failed to hit sustained, climatic finishes, was off-pitch and off-center. He made several disparaging comments about Judy (wasn't this concert supposed to be a homage?) and rewrote history to suit his agenda. His drag perf of "Get Happy" was horrific and the show overall was a trainwreck. The highlight of the show was Lorna Luft who stole the show -- she was everything that Rufus was not...professional, vocally superb, confident, rehearsed, commanded the stage and the audience, and she, unlike Rufus, was equal to the material...and she powerfully connected with the audience in a way Rufus failed to do and got the biggest ovation of the evening. I'm sure it was not lost on him. Even his sister Martha's so-so "Stormy Weather" got a bigger hand and positive reaction than one of his numbers. If Anna Nichole was alive and gave a Judy Garland concert, this gives you some idea of what was inflicted on the audience at The Hollywood Bowl last night.

Rufus was a disappointment at the bowl last night. It's as if he forgot Judy and made it a Rufus show.
Martha Wainwright's "Stormy Weather" on the ohter hand was mermerizing.
